# Benefits of a Decentralized Model

Decentralization is a key characteristic of many blockchain-based projects, and it can bring several benefits compared to centralized models:

1. **Increased security:** In a decentralized network, there is no one decision making party, but instead a large coalition-- making it much more difficult for a single attacker to compromise the system. This reduces the risk of cyber attacks, data breaches, and other security threats.
2. **Transparency and immutability:** Transactions and decisions in a decentralized model are recorded and are visible to all participants. This ensures transparency and makes it difficult for anyone to alter the record of transactions, adding an extra layer of security.
3. **Censorship resistance:** Decentralized exchanges are not controlled by a single entity, making it more difficult for governments or other organizations to censor or restrict access to information or assets.
4. **Increased trust:** In a decentralized model, trust is established through code and verifiable actions, rather than relying on a central authority. This can help build trust between users and can make it easier to use a dApp that adheres to these principles.
5. **Better resilience:** With a centralized organization, if the central point of failure goes down, the entire platform can become unavailable, or inoperable. In a decentralized model, however, as long as there is at least a majority that is operational, functionality can proceed.

However, it's worth noting that decentralized systems can also come with their own set of challenges, such as scalability issues, slower transaction times, and a lack of regulatory oversight.
